If you'd like to be part of GDS' next show, come along to our open readings on Tuesday 5th and Thursday 7th February at 7.30pm. Readings are held at our own rehearsal rooms - The Green Room. Find out how to get there on our maps page.
Our committee have been reading and reviewing scripts for our next production from 5th to 8th June. It's been tough to find something to follow our sell-out run of Calendar Girls, but we have a fantastic show that has just been released - 'Boeing Boeing' by Marc Camoletti.
About the play
Revived in the West End in 2007, Boeing Boeing tells the story of Parisian lothario Bernard who has three fiancees, each beautiful airline hostesses with frequent "layovers". An unexpected schedule change brings all three to Paris and his apartment at the same time. Bernard's old school friend, Robert, and his housekeeper, Bertha, attempt to diffuse the inevitable chaos.
How you can get involved
There are roles for 4 women and 2 men. Of the four women, three are air hostesses; one American, one Italian and one German, each requiring the relevant accent.
To be considered for a part you must be available every evening of the play week from 3rd to 8th June 2013, and preferably the normal rehearsals the week before too. We usually rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week, and perform four nights, plus technical and dress rehearsals. You will need to become a member for at least the duration of the rehearsals and performance - current membership fees are £6 a month for full members, £2 for students.
In addition to the six acting roles we are also looking for enthusiastic people to support the show in a variety of roles, from backstage to technical or helping with publicity and promotion.
Other forthcoming activities
As well as Boeing Boeing we have an exciting opportunity to deliver a murder mystery play at the Lord Mayor's Charity dinner in April. We will be casting this over the next few weeks. We are also working with local cafe, Cafe Leo, to deliver a murder mystery play on 2nd March and currently looking to fill one of the male roles. Again if you would be interested in either of these activities, please do come along to next week's readings.
Our readings are open to all - existing members and those interested in getting involved. If you're interested in backstage, do come along and get an idea of what the plays are like. Like many amateur groups, we're particularly keen to hear from men who are interested in performing or working backstage. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, or check out our Join page for more information about us and what readings are like.
