Exciting project for Gravity Fields

Did you know that, following his scientific discoveries, Isaac Newton went on to run the Royal Mint?

As part of the Gravity Fields Festival 2016, this September, GDS will present a full production of The Old Dogg at the Mint. Readings for the production begin on Thursday 23rd June, 7.30pm (at our rehearsal rooms), and are open to all. The play will be performed in the old school room at Grantham's King's School - in the very space that Newton studied.

The play tells the story of Sir Isaac Newton's time there during which he hunted down and prosecuted counterfeiters who were undermining the British economy. The Old Dogg at the Mint explores the darker side of Newton's obsessions and highlights his conflicts with other figures.

The play was written by members of GDS with professional playwright Andy Barrett in 2014 as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project, Lincolnshire's Age of Scientific Discovery. Members travelled to the Royal Mint in Cardiff as well as conducting research about Newton's time as Warden of the Royal Mint. The play was performed in a rehearsed reading during the 2014 Gravity Fields Festival and was well received.

Please do come along and join the reading on Thursday 23rd June, and each Thursday after, to get involved.

Social readings for 2017 plays

We're already thinking about which shows to put on in 2017 so come along and help us choose! Readings are on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm at our rehearsal rooms and are a relaxed way to get to know the group. We're always keen to hear suggestions about plays you'd like to see, so do feel free to get in touch with your ideas.
